When Will Your Car Battery Die?By dustin michael at 02/02/09 13:27
You ever go outside in the morning to leave for work but your car won't start? You figure out that the battery is dead. Sometimes it is hard to tell when you might need a new battery for your car. Some people just drive with it until the battery dies and then get a new one. I don't recommend doing that. I would like to know when my car battery is going to die. I found a website that will help you predict how long a battery is going to last in your car. At AutoBatteries.com you can get a pretty good idea on when you will need to change your battery in your car. First, they will ask you how old your battery is. Then they will ask you for the brand of battery you are using in your car. After you answer both of those questions you will need to enter the make, model, and year of your car. After all that information is entered, they will tell you the estimated time the battery will last in your car. AutoBatteries.com also gives you the part number for you to order a new battery. They also give you information on where to buy a new one locally. This website is definately something you might want to check out.

The test at autobatteries.com is lame. Doesn't give any results. The way to check : a) Disconnect your car battery b) Use a voltmeter ( or multimeter) and check the battery voltage. If it's below 12 or for some reason not charging when using a charger. Use the 10 amp charging for a min or 50 amp charging for 5-10 secs to get the voltage up temporarily. c) Charge the battery charger (at 2 amps) until full charged. d) Disconnect the battery terminals and see if the charge is above 13 volts. Leave it for few hours and check the voltage again to see if it's atleat 12.6 volts. If it drops below that, then it's time to replace the battery. e) Place your batter back in the car and connect all terminals and start the car. After few mins, test the voltage using a voltmeter/multimeter. The voltage should be above 13.5 volts. If it's not you need to service your alternator. Good luck Use a voltmeter Comment #2 Tom Kirwn at 01/08/10 07:53
The battery in my Ford Mondeo is nearly 12 years old. Could this be a record or nearly so. It still works perfectely even in our current severe cold spell. I have never checked it for acid levels. What have I done right to get this level of service Comment #3 noob at 04/25/10 09:38
You dimwit previous poster!Read wiki or other sites yet "below voltage" is either around 11v or 10v NOT 12.6v as you expected... Gees everyone is an 'expert' ???...
